Short hike to Valea Spumoasa Waterfall, Busteni, Romania (3 minutes reading)

Trail Busteni – Hotel Silva – Valea Spumoasa waterfall (27 min)

First be aware that the route is not marked, but is extraordinarily beautiful and an alternative shorter route than the route to Urlatoarea. You can use GPS by searching Cascada Valea Spumoasa or use the offline coordinates Latitude: 45° 24′ 21.0492″ | Longitude: 25° 30′ 56.8938″.

Our starting point is Hotel Silva, Busteni (885 m), located just before the cable car station Busteni-Babele.

We begin the trail with an easy climb up on the Cable car Street on the left side of the Jepi stream.

From this point we follow the forest road marked with a red dot (for Urlatoarea route).

After a few minutes walking uphill on the forest road, we continue on this path (forest road) leaving Urlatoarea route to our left.

Following, we continue to walk for aprox. 10 minutes on a smooth climbing (no big differences of terrain level) through the forest road path. Soon, we intersect the another route to Valea Jepii Mici – Cabana Caraiman (marked with Blue Cross), which we leave shortly on our left.

On this small walking path we find no difficulty in going forward, passing near the following water captation:

  • Captarea Izvorul Caraiman (alt 1032 m) the old Busteni paper mill which now is functioning as collector of drinking water “Caraiman” which is currently only used for producing hydropower by Hidro Jepi:p9

  • Captarea Romaqua Borsec  – this is the spot saying that the area is restricted for sanitary reasons as this mineral water reservoir  is used for “feeding” the public irrigation system in Busteni. This water is also used by the Romaqua factory in Busteni to produce Giusto juice & bottle still water Aquatique

  • Captarea Caraiman (1082 m) – source of surface water:

From there, we ascend steeper on the trail taking right from Captarea Caraiman, going up about 150 m (this is the portion with most “difficult” route), entering the wilderness and beauty of coniferous forest in Bucegi. The images below “speak for themselves”.

After this short stretch of climbing we reach to Busteni Rescue Refuge a.k.a. Salvamont Busteni (1141 m), located in a clearing with a breathtaking mountain landscape on the left which seems detached from the fairy tales.

From this point we can go behind the refuge or around it, as you wish, 30 meters walking up in the woods we arrive at our destination today, “Foam Valley Falls” a.k.a. Valea Spumoasa Waterfall (1147 m), which greets us with a monumental peace, excellent battery charging sight (the only “noise” being clear mountain water falling on the rocks).

We kindly recommend you this route, accessible in all seasons and for all ages, and invite you to try the feeling of harmony with nature and discover a great corner of the world. You can get to Busteni, Romania by train (from Bucharest: aprox 2.5h, 25-70 lei depending on the transport provider) or car (from Bucharest:aprox.150 km, 2- 4h depending on the traffic rolleyes)

Waiting for feedback and- impressions after covering this route!

PS: For a better view here it is on summer “clothing” lol
